Cowboys 'Pushups Punishment' for Pickens and Lamb at Practice

FRISCO - We've heard Dallas Cowboys receivers CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens talk the talk.

What Cowboys Nation has needed to see and hear is how they walk the walk.

And it happened during OTAs on Thursday here inside The Star.

Lamb has been this team's No. 1 receiver. ... by a large margin. He has 1,700 more yards than the second-most productive target, by far the largest gap in the NFL.

One of the top priorities this offseason was to find Lamb a No. 2 complement target. They did so ... plus some, in their eyes, with the trade for George Pickens from Pittsburgh.

And their stated view?

"We're both 1's," Lamb said.

Echoed Pickens, "Yeah!''

Lamb is a four-time Pro Bowl selection who two years ago produced the best receiving season in Cowboys' history with 135 catches for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns. Pickens has only 12 touchdowns in his three seasons, but in 2023 led the league in yards per reception at more than 18 yards.

And yet ...

"It ain't no A/B, none of that," Lamb said. "You look over there, you see 1. You look over here, you see another 1. So do what you got to do with that."

What they did on Thursday ... matters.

Quarterback Dak Prescott tossed a deep ball to Lamb, but CeeDee was unable to hold on. As noted by ESPN's Todd Archer, Lamb then "punished himself'' by dropping to the grass for a series of self-imposed "punishment'' pushups.

All good. But then ...

Pickens hurried over to align himself with Lamb and joined him in the "punishment,'' doing his own pushups as well.

Trading for Pickens was an aggressive move; some call it risky because of "GP's'' wobbly reputation. But new head coach Brian Schottenheimer has talked often about how Pickens has been "incredible'' in fitting into the culture here.

And on Thursday, instead of just talking it ... Pickens joined Lamb in walking it.
