Winning the Premier League, as Liverpool have done this season, isn't something many players get the pleasure of experiencing. This includes the partying for days afterwards and the euphoria involved with celebrating among fans, be it at your home stadium or while atop a ‘Champions’ bus parading around a packed-out city centre.
This season, we've seen Crystal Palace, Newcastle and Spurs all up on top deck enjoying their moment. Of course, with such events come important style-related decisions. Your fit is as good as sorted – kit with winners written on it – which leaves the all-important accessories. Sunnies are a given, but what about watches? This is where Liverpool FC once again proved their superiority over the opposition as the likes of Curtis Jones, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Konstantinos Tsimikas, and Joe Gomez firmly had killer watch flexes firmly on the agenda to mark winning the league.
“The guys all have really cool taste. Their watch style is quite similar, naturally they want the biggest, rarest and hardest-to-reach watch, and they want to wear them all the time,” say Kettle Kids co-founders Harvey and Jacob Hutson, who sourced the watches worn by the aforementioned players. “This is the dream client for us, as it makes our hunt harder and more fun, finding them the most interesting tier-A watches on the market.”
The team has pretty mega watch form and a lot of the guys are already packing serious heat from the top watch dogs. But for the celebrations they called in the big guns. Take Curtis Jones, one of the most consistently good players of the season. The midfielder was holding it down at the front of the bus with his fellow teammates with a Richard Mille RM 65-01 strapped to his wrist. His understanding on the pitch with Mo Salah has never been better. Off the pitch, the duo appear to have been sharing watch tips as they are both RM-lovers.
This isn’t the kind of watch you wear to fly below the radar. For starters, it’s bright red. It’s part of a mega hyped collab between Richard Mille and Rafael Nadal. And it's a crazy openworked beast that's massively on-theme flex for a guy that is clearly very down for his club.
The Richard Mille love was shared by Konstantinos 'The Greek Scouser' Tsimikas, who rocked a Richard Mille RM67-02 in Mutaz Carbon. This sexy ticker comes with a red and white carbon case which weighs 32 grams, perfect for a guy who brings the energy of a border collie to the pitch, with long balls, crosses, and fiery tackles.
Much has been said about Alexander-Arnold, the most long-serving authentic Scouser in the team. That’s because he has just confirmed his move to Real Madrid, where he’ll be joining his England bestie Jude Bellingham. And if his white ceramic Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar is anything to go by, Real’s white kit will look good on him. Yeah, this legendary sports watch looks great in steel, but there’s something extra sexy about shiny ceramic that takes it to a whole new level. Plus, with its moonphase, day, date, week and leap year functionality, it’s a top league kettle if we’ve ever seen one.
As for Joe Gomez, the Reds’ reliable centre-back, he likes to go for hardy, reliable watches like the AP Royal Oak in Stainless steel and Patek Philippe Nautilus. While he wore Royal Oak for the parade, he’s previously turned to Kettle Kids to scoop up bangers like the white dial Nautilus 5711/1A-011, which he wore when Liverpool’s league win was secured against Spurs. As a move, it’s hard to fault. It’s widely considered to be one the best sports watches made, cooked up by design god Gérald Genta, and gets the mix between rugged daily grail and refined banger just right.
Liverpool FC clearly has some pretty solid watch chat going on behind the scenes. That's because shelling out on ultra rare luxury watches is the hobby you can afford when you’re sitting at the top of the table. “These guys love watches, they're all enthusiasts and they love having a growing collection of special watches, They're so easy to work with and get so surprised with what we can offer them. They're usually watches they have never seen before or never knew existed and they want them immediately,” say Harvey and Jacob Hutson.
Should The Reds win any more silverware next season, one thing's for sure – we'll know where they'll be headed for their wristwear.
