Wolves will not face any profit and sustainability (PSR) issues after agreeing to sell Matheus Cunha to Manchester United, sources have told Football Insider.

The West Midlands side were believed to be close to the PSR limit for the 2023-24 financial year, with top-flight clubs only permitted to make £105million of losses over a rolling three-year period.

The sales of Matheus Nunes, Ruben Neves and Nathan Collins in the summer of 2023 helped get them over the line and avoid a potential breach.

Wolves moved their accounting deadline from 31 May to 30 June earlier this year, opening up the possibility for them to sell a player before they submit their accounts for 2024-25.

Sky Sports reported on 28 May Man United have agreed a deal to sign Cunha after meeting the terms of the £62.5million release clause in his contract, which expires in 2029.

It said United had originally wanted to pay the figure over five years, but will now meet Wolves’ terms of three parts over two years.

Wolves turn attention to Liverpool star after Matheus Cunha update

Cunha is believed to have been promised the number 10 shirt as he closes in on a move to Old Trafford.

The Brazil international has been a standout player for Wolves this season after registering 17 goals and six assists in 36 appearances.

The 26-year-old’s influence on Vitor Pereira’s side helped secure their Premier League status for another campaign, having finished 16th in the table, one place below United on goal difference.

Former Old Trafford chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider Wolves have been preparing for Cunha’s exit after being linked with a move for Liverpool star Harvey Elliott this summer.

The 22-year-old registered five goals and three assists in 28 appearances this season as Arne Slot’s side claimed the Premier League title.
