Chido Obi's brace helps Man United complete comeback win over Hong Kong

Manchester United ended their post-season tour with a 3-1 win over Hong Kong at the Hong Kong Stadium on Friday afternoon.

United had opened the tour with a 1-0 loss to ASEAN All-Stars at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Malaysia on Wednesday.

Despite that defeat, manager Ruben Amorim did not name a strong starting line-up for the match, opting to include five academy players.

Jonny Evans, Rasmus Hojlund, Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho, Tom Heaton, and Casemiro were the senior players named in the starting XI.

United started the game strongly, and Casemiro nearly gave them the lead in the fifth minute when he headed Fernandes’s shot into the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Fernandes then came close again, forcing a save from goalkeeper Tse Ka Wing with a well-struck free-kick.

Hong Kong took the lead in the 19th minute through Juninho, whose free-kick was poorly dealt with by Heaton.

Two minutes before the half-hour mark, Amorim made his first set of changes, replacing Shea Lacey and Casemiro with Sekou Kone and Tyler Fletcher.

Hong Kong offered little after taking the lead, but United failed to capitalise on several chances before the end of the first half.

At the interval, Amorim changed his entire XI, allowing United to maintain dominance in possession.

Patrick Dorgu had a penalty appeal waved away shortly after the restart, before youngster Chido Obi equalised with a clinical finish.

United increased the tempo following Obi’s goal, and Mason Mount nearly scored with a curled effort from 22 yards, which Tse saved brilliantly.

Amorim made further changes in the 74th minute, bringing on Jim Thwaites and Jack Moorhouse for Toby Collyer and Dan Armer.

Obi put United ahead eight minutes from time, heading home Mount’s pinpoint cross.

Deep into the stoppage time, Ayden Heaven sealed the victory, powering a header home from Amad Diallo’s cross.

The Red Devils will not be back in action until July 19, when they kick off their pre-season campaign with a clash against Leeds United at Friends Arena in Sweden.
