Chiefs Rookie Quickly Erasing Concerns With Huge OTA News

The stars aligned for the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2025 NFL draft. Ohio State left tackle Josh Simmons fell all the way to No.31. Then, Kansas City swapped picks with the Philadelphia Eagles since they knew the Eagles had no need to select Simmons.

That said, part of the reason the former Ohio State left tackle fell was because of the torn patellar tendon he suffered during the 2024 college football season. While recovering from a torn patellar tendon is a long and difficult process, if any training staff can handle that challenge, it's Kansas City. Just take Trey Smith's injury concerns when he was drafted as an example.

Following the Chiefs' final OTA practice of their first week, head coach Andy Reid spoke to the media about Simmons. According to Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports, Reid said, " He's \[Simmons\] one that didn't work this week. . . he's further ahead than I thought he was."

He added, " We've kept him out of the team stuff. . . He's done a good job with what we've given him. We've just got to get him in where he's going against a defense."

Andy Reid Shares Encouraging Update on Josh Simmons

---------------------------------------------------

Despite Rei's comment being a bit generic, they slightly reinforce a report from about two weeks ago. On May 20, [Adam Teicher of ESPN](https://kckingdom.com/chiefs-already-having-doubts-about-big-veteran-addition-01jvqh9jjbbs) appeared on SportsRadio810 and said, "If Josh Simmons is ready to go, he will be the Chiefs' starting left tackle to begin the season."

Though Reid didn't make that bold of a claim, it's clear the training staff is trying to get him ready for the practice reps and maybe even the regular season. If they weren't, Reid wouldn't have even mentioned getting him ready to go against a defense.

With that in mind, Chiefs fans should be excited because many assumed Simmons' rookie year would serve as a "red shirt" season. Although Kansas City signed Jaylon Moore to a sizeable contract, having Simmons healthy and ready to play is a much better situation.
