Chelsea Legend Reveals Why the Blues Can’t Compete With Man City and Liverpool Yet

Chelsea legend John Terry has spotted a tactical weakness in the squad’s current system, warning that they are two years off winning the Premier League title. This comes after the Blues defeated Nottingham Forest on the last day of the season to qualify for the Champions League next season.

The now-retired captain explained that the club’s willingness to invite the press “too often” is concerning. He thinks it is being attempted unsuccessfully from Manchester City’s book, explaining:

“I think we’re a couple of years off [challenging for the title]. I really do. I don’t want that to be headline stuff but I look at Man City, Liverpool – they’re stronger. Arsenal have been consistent.

“Now we invite press too often, other teams do it. Man City have a lot to answer for, they’re the best at it but other teams try to do it and they can’t. The fans are frustrated with that over time.”

Although he admitted the significance of coming fourth, Terry warned that the Blues needed to sign experienced players to strengthen the team. He reiterated that signing mature players is significant in the club’s advancement, particularly with the additional pressure of having to play Champions League football:

“We’ve managed to secure fourth, good experience from the boys. Making signings and attracting players is big next year.”

Chelsea Chase Transfer Options Ahead of Champions League Return

Having Champions League football under their belt in the coming season, Chelsea are on the hunt to sign seasoned players to strengthen their squad. One of their primary targets is Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, with the club in search of consistency between the sticks.

In midfield, Chelsea are hoping to complete Jadon Sancho’s loan deal from Manchester United on a permanent basis. Sancho wants to remain at Stamford Bridge, but negotiations to find common ground on wages to fit Chelsea’s pay offer are still ongoing.

Earlier, the Blues showed some interest in Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike. The 22-year-old striker had a good season, and the London giants rate him as an addition to their attacking assets.
