Bolton are in advanced talks to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe on loan, sources have told Football Insider.

Sharman-Lowe, 22, spent last season on loan at Doncaster Rovers, playing an instrumental role in helping the side win the League Two title and promotion.

The young goalkeeper played every single minute Grant McCann’s side, as they finished top of the fourth tier with 84 points.

A number of EFL clubs have expressed an interest in taking the England Under-21 international on loan for next season, but Bolton are confident of winning the race for his signature.

Sharman-Lowe set for Bolton

Sharman-Lowe came through the Burton Albion academy before being picked up by Chelsea in 2020 as a 17-year-old.

The shot-stopper is yet to make an appearance for the Blues, and had loan spells at Havant & Waterlooville and Bromley before his breakout season for Doncaster.

Earlier this year, Sharman-Lowe was the hero in Doncaster’s FA Cup win over Hull, saving Alfie Jones’ penalty in the shootout as the League Two side stunned the Tigers.

In the league, the Englishman kept 13 clean sheets in his 46 appearances, with Doncaster beating Port Vale to the title.

With his contract running out this summer, it is expected that Chelsea will hand Sharman-Lowe a longer-term deal ahead of any loan move.

Bolton to push for promotion

Sharman-Lowe will join a Bolton side that finished eighth in League One last season, with no wins in their final six games.

Steven Schumacher took over the Wanderers at the end of January with the club still in the hunt for a play-off place, but they fell away towards the end of the season.

In the 2023/24 season, Bolton got all the way to the play-off final, but were beaten 2-0 by Oxford at Wembley.

The Trotters will be desperate to repeat that feat next season, and perhaps go one better and secure their place back in the Championship.

Bolton were last in the second tier back in 2019, before financial trouble saw them drop all the way down to League Two, where they immediately gained promotion back up to League One.
