Ruben Amorim does not think Bruno Fernandes will leave Manchester United.
Fernandes is giving serious consideration to leaving the club and his agent, Miguel Pinho, was pictured meeting officials from the Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr.
The 30-year-old captained United in a 3-1 win against a Hong Kong XI in their final post-season tour match on Friday and was substituted at half-time as Amorim fielded an entirely different team for the second half.
Fernandes has not told United if he wants to leave and he conducted meet-and-greet signing sessions with fans after the match. Although Amorim hopes his compatriot remains at Old Trafford, he also admitted no one knows for certain whether Fernandes will stay or go.
“I don’t think so," Amorim replied when asked if Fernandes would leave. "I don’t know for sure, but nobody knows. But I don’t think so.
"He is seeing us changing some actions to change all the things and I think he wants to stay. He is saying no to a lot of things.
"But he shows that he wants to win. He is really hungry. He is really good. He needs to be in the best league in the world.
“I am the manager, the coach, sometimes it is the decisions of the player. Of course I talk to him, I explain things and I just have that feeling. When you talk to someone you have that feeling if he wants to stay.
"Of course, in a lot of games he is frustrated. He knows what we are doing. The feeling I get every time I speak with him is that he wants to continue for sure with Man United. You never know."
United's principal striker target, Liam Delap, rejected the club in favour of joining Chelsea earlier this week but the £62.5million signing of Matheus Cunha is effectively awaiting a formal announcement.
Despite Delap's decision, Amorim insists he has a "clear idea" of how to reconstruct a squad that finished 15th in the Premier League.
"Yes. I have a clear idea what we want," he stressed. "As you know, we are a bit limited and we can’t do it all in one summer. But there is a clear picture for what we want.
"Let’s wait and see but we have a clear picture for what we want next season."
