Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice faces another lawsuit from last year’s car crash

Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice faces a new lawsuit in connection with his involvement with a high speed car crash in Dallas last year.

The lawsuit was filed on May 9 in Dallas County by a woman who alleges that the people in the crash tried to speak to Rice and a former SMU teammate Theodore “Teddy” Knox but they left the scene of the crash.

The incident involved a speeding Lamborghini, allegedly driven by Rice, and a Corvette allegedly driven by Knox, causing a chain reaction crash with four other vehicles on U.S. Highway 75. Rice faces multiple charges, including collision involving bodily injury and aggravated assault

Rice was driving 119 mph some 4.5 seconds before he collided with other cars. The Corvette was traveling at 116 mph.

The woman seeks damages of between $250,000 and $1,000,000 in the lawsuit, according to court documents.

“Despite these innocent victims calling for emergency help and desperately trying to exit their damaged vehicles in a state of shock,” the lawsuit reads, “Defendants intentionally and knowingly evaded assisting those injured by their outrageous conduct and absconded from the scene. The victims and bystanders tried to engage the Defendants‘ but they were ignored as the Defendants‘ fled to avoid responsibility.”

Rice later turned himself in to Dallas police and was released on bond.

An earlier lawsuit was filed in April 2024 by two others who allege they suffered multiple injuries. They seek at least $1 million in actual damages and $10 million in punitive damages.

Rice hasn’t faced a suspension from the NFL but that remains a possibility under the league’s personal conduct policy. The NFL typically waits for legal situations to be resolved.

He played his second season for the Chiefs in 2024 but suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 4.

As a rookie, Rice was the team’s top wide receiver with 79 receptions and seven touchdowns. He’s been with the Chiefs during voluntary organized team activities this week, but missed Thursday’s workout with an illness.
