As Manchester United's miserable post-season tour came to an end on Friday, attention was focused firmly on captain Bruno Fernandes.
After United lost 1-0 to the ASEAN All-Stars on Wednesday in Kuala Lumpur, they faced Hong Kong on Friday to finally draw a line under the worst season the club has endured in decades.

In the buildup to Friday's game, reports suggested that Fernandes was seriously considering an approach from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
Laurie Whitwell of the Athletic reported that the Portuguese playmaker was "giving serious consideration" to a deal from the Saudi team that would see him earn €25 million over four years - triple what he currently earns for United.
Fernandes was the clear player of the season at Old Trafford this season, consistently carrying the team through the Europa League even as the team's performance levels dipped to previously unthinkable lows.
As the club's captain and sole remaining superstar player, losing Fernandes would be similarly unthinkable to United fans.

However, with the club's dire financial situation, the reports that Al-Hilal could offer at least £80 million for the 31-year-old was seen by many as a deal that the club may not be able to turn down.
Head coach Ruben Amorim suggested the opposite in Hong Kong on Friday.

Laurie Whitwell, the man who broke the story this morning, asked Amorim whether Bruno had played his final game for the club.
Though Amorim said he was unsure, he was unequivocal in stating what he believed to be Fernandes' preference.
I don't think so. I don't know for sure, nobody knows, but I don't think so.
I think he is seeing us taking some actions to change all the things and I think that it's all that he asks.
I think he wants to stay. He is saying no to a lot of things. It shows that he wants to win. He's really young, he's really good, he needs to be on the best league in the world.
Crucially, Amorim also suggested that money would not be a deciding factor in whether the club kept Fernandes.

We can find another way to win money.
The feeling I get is that he wants to continue for sure with Man United, you never know.
Manchester United may be ready to offload a significant number of players this summer, but fans will surely hope that their talisman Bruno Fernandes is not among them.
The situation remains up in the air but Ruben Amorim's comments will surely be reassuring to United's fanbase.
