Ever since the Colts announced the passing of owner Jim Irasy earlier this week, former players and employees of the team have come out in full force with stories of Irsay's humor, generosity, and heart. He was a unique personality in a league full of them, and everyone from Peyton Manning to Reggie Wayne had something funny, quirky, or heartfelt to say about him.

The latest story from Wayne, however, may be the best yet. While giving a press conference about Irsay earlier this week, Wayne talked about how, when trying to negotiate his final contract with the Colts, he and Irsay took a somewhat impractical approach to finalizing the deal that involved phone calls, TV sitcoms, and a notable lack of agents in the room.
Reggie Wayne told a great story about Colts' owner Jim Irsay this week
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"On my last contract, me signing here, and I don't even think I'm coming back, to be honest with you," [he said](https://x.com/MySportsUpdate/status/1928104045224546466). "I'm getting ready to take a trip to Chicago and Kansas City. They're blowing my phone up, trying to set up a flight. They're going back and forth. And all of a sudden, my phone rung. It was his number. I was like, what the hell is he calling me for? Answer the phone, and it's him. 'Hey Reg, what you doing?' And I was like, I'm about to take a trip to Kansas City. He said, you know what? You're not taking that trip. Let's get this thing done. I asked what took him so long to call, and he said, 'I had to watch my favorite TV sticom ...' So I actually did that deal with him, by myself. I gave my agent 3%, and I don't even know why. That baffles me to this day."
The agent part is about as good a punchline as you'll see this week, and maybe next week too. It's a great story that encapulates everything that made Irsay so beloved to Colts' players, fans, and employees – his eccentric mix of personality and humor was unique to NFL owners. Wayne's story just further proves how much he'll be missed in that building.
