17-year-old Man Utd wonderkid has just shown Ineos which senior player must be sold this summer, embarrassing end to…

Manchester United are set to sell several first-team players this summer in an effort to revolutionise the squad at Ruben Amorim’s disposal.

It has been a long season watching Manchester United week in, week out fail to perform to the levels expected.

Ruben Amorim has gone from Europe’s hottest young manager at Sporting CP to the most criticised man in the Premier League as a result.

However, Ineos are going to back Amorim in the transfer window with the addition of Matheus Cunha, a sign of that being the case. But in order to complete the overhaul that this team needs, there will be sacrifices.

Alejandro Garnacho has been told to leave by Amorim. This week, it has emerged that Bruno Fernandes is seriously considering a move to Al-Hilal, which would be a major blow for United.

But the latest post-season clash with Hong Kong proved that one player just has to be sold this summer.

Chido Obi seals Rasmus Hojlund’s fate at Manchester United

Friday’s game followed a similar pattern to Wednesday’s loss until the second half, when Chido Obi announced himself as a first-team player for United

Obi was the man of the match as he scored twice to overturn the 1-0 deficit and inspired the 3-1 victory over Hong Kong.

Obi’s first goal came just four minutes after he replaced the once again poor Rasmus Hojlund, leading the line, which highlighted that already the 17-year-old Dane may have surpassed his 22-year-old compatriot.

Hojlund’s poor touch, passing, finishing, and positioning all saw him easily handled by the defence of the nation FIFA has ranked 153rd in the world. On the contrary, Obi’s first touch was perfect as he used his frame to hold off defenders, but most impressive was his finishing.

After scoring a brilliant goal with his weak foot on the turn, Obi’s second goal was a glancing header, which is a type of goal that Hojlund has deprived fans of for the past two seasons.

With Obi showing signs of being better than Hojlund, it has been made clear to Ineos that the No.9 must be sold this summer.

Ruben Amorim reacts to two goal Obi performance

Obi was very impressive in his cameo, however, it is important to remember the opponents he did it against, and still sign a new elite forward this summer.

Speaking after the game, as quoted by Laurie Whitwell, Amorim also tempered expectations.

“I think he proved already in the U18s that he can score goals. The Premier League is a completely different world. It’s a good start, he is working really well. I was really pleased with all the kids tonight.”

Amorim has played down the achievement, which is a needed move to ensure that youngsters aren’t getting ahead of themselves, however, he will be aware of how much better United were with Obi up top, as opposed to Hojlund.

A good start, but there is so much more to come.
