Dan Campbell says Lions will lean on Jameson Williams: ‘Sky is the limit’

ALLEN PARK — Just like his newly hired offensive coordinator John Morton, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is expecting big things from Jameson Williams this season.

Ahead of organized team activities (OTAs) on Friday, Campbell spoke with local reporters and shared his perspective on the wide receiver’s growth.

“Oh my God, he’s got a ton of growth left. And listen, he’s had a good spring. It’s another one—I don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves in OTAs—but I mean, there’s so much versatility with him,” Campbell said. “There are so many things that we can do just with his routes on the outside. I mean, we can do things inside. But just with his speed, and he’s gotten so much stronger. His ability to stop, put his foot in the ground—when you can run, you can run. And now you’re getting to where, man, you can stop on a dime. I mean, you talk about a hard cover. So the sky’s the limit for him.

“He’s exactly where we want him to be right now at this point, man. He’s been here, he’s grinding, he’s getting better. (Wide receivers coach) Scottie (Montgomery) is freaking grinding him. It’s awesome. But we expect him to have a huge season. We really do, man. He’s going to be one of these guys that we’re going to lean on this year, and it’s really going to be big for us. And all he’s got to do is just keep working like he’s working, and we’ll be good.”

Williams, who is entering his fourth NFL season, is coming off a career-best season in which he caught 58 passes for 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns over 15 games.

In April, the Lions [exercised the fifth-year option on Williams’ dea](https://www.mlive.com/lions/2025/04/lions-pick-up-fifth-year-options-on-aidan-hutchinson-jameson-williams.html)l, who was the subject of trade rumors at the time — rumors that general manager Brad Holmes debunked.

“No. No,” Holmes said. “That’s something we have never entertained. I don’t know where that report came from. But that’s not a conversation that me and Dan (Campbell) has ever had.”
