Manchester United’s backroom staff continues to evolve under Ruben Amorim, with another change confirmed following the club’s post-season tour.

The Red Devils had already made sweeping changes after Amorim’s arrival, parting ways with assistant coaches Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake.

Along with goalkeeping coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar.

United’s post-season tour of Malaysia and Hong Kong provided further clues as to the reshaping of Amorim’s coaching structure – with a notable omission in the setup.

Andreas Georgson officially departs Manchester United

As per confirmation from the Manchester United website, first team coach Andreas Georgson has now left the club after ten months in the role.

The 43-year-old Swede, originally brought in as set piece coach under Erik ten Hag in July 2024, stayed on following the managerial change in October, having been retained by Amorim alongside Darren Fletcher.

Georgson had previously worked with Jason Wilcox at Southampton, and it was Wilcox who played a key role in bringing him to United from Lillestrom.

However, Georgson was absent from the Asia tour after holding discussions with Amorim and Wilcox, acknowledging there was “less space in the new setup” for his specialist role.

Carlos Fernandes — Amorim’s long-time assistant — will now lead the club’s set-piece operations going forward.

Speaking on his departure, Georgson said: “It has been a fantastic experience serving as first team coach at Manchester United and I will always be proud of my association with such a great football club.

“This period of my career has now come to an end as I leave to find a new challenge elsewhere.

“While excited about the opportunities ahead, I am sad to be leaving so many great colleagues and friends at Carrington, who make Manchester United truly special.

“Even during such a tough season, the professionalism and dedication of the players and staff never wavered and I know there will be better times ahead.

“I want to thank Jason, Ruben and Erik for the opportunities they gave me, and wish everyone at the club the best of luck for the future.”

Wilcox added: “Andreas has been a valued member of our men’s first team coaching set-up over the past year and we are grateful for his significant contribution.

“He leaves with our thanks and best wishes for the next stage of his career.”

Georgson leaves having helped shape United’s set-piece strategy during a transitional period for the club, offering tactical insights honed from previous stints at Arsenal, Brentford, and Southampton.

United fans will be eager to see how Fernandes builds on the foundation laid by Georgson, particularly given Amorim’s reputation for detail-oriented coaching.
