With Dart and Carter, the Giants have now selected multiple players in the first round of the same draft twice in Schoen's four years. Prior to that, the Giants had done it just twice in the previous four decades (2019 and 1984).
Dart was the third quarterback in Ole Miss history to be taken in the first round. Giants fans may have heard of the other two, Eli and Archie Manning. Dart served as a counselor at the Manning Passing Academy and went on to break Eli's program record for career passing yards, finishing with 10,617 to eclipse the two-time Super Bowl MVP's 10,119 in college. Dart also owns Ole Miss records in wins (28) and winning percentage (.737) by a starting quarterback.
Like Eli, Dart was part of a draft-day trade. Unlike Eli, he was officially drafted by the Giants.
After working the phones, Schoen ultimately found a partner with Texans general manager Nick Caserio. The Giants received the 25th pick from Houston in exchange for their 34th and 99th selections and a 2026 third-round choice.
Dart, who led the FBS with 1,517 passing yards and 17 touchdowns on deep passes (20+ air yards) in 2024, is now in a revamped quarterback room with 10-time Pro Bowl selection and Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson, former No. 1 overall pick Jameis Winston, and the lone returnee in Tommy DeVito.
This week, all four took the field for the start of spring practices. Wilson, as expected, led the way with the first team.
"They'll all get reps at various spots," coach Brian Daboll told the media on Wednesday. "So, we've got a plan for that and we've been working that since they've been here, but they'll all get reps."
