Kalvin Phillips’ chances of returning to Leeds United change after major update

Leeds United fans will be eager to know if Kalvin Phillips will make an extraordinary return to Elland Road.

There has been plenty of back and forth in this saga, as there are mixed opinions on welcoming Phillips back to Leeds.

When he left for Man City in a deal worth £42m, the midfielder was in his peak as a 26-year-old, but three years later, he finds himself stuck.

After two failed loan moves to West Ham and Ipswich, Phillips is desperately trying to find his form, when he was at Leeds.

Kalvin Phillips’ chances of returning to Leeds United change

The Whites faithful had a gem in Phillips for eight seasons, but it was difficult for the midfielder to turn down the move to play in Pep Guardiola’s side.

Although it seemed like a return for Phillips was close, nothing has really come to fruition, and Daniel Farke might not even welcome his arrival.

This is due to his unfortunate injury record, which has ultimately tarnished his potential, but a reunion would be great to see, no doubt.

However, that dream might now be all but over after a major update has emerged on Phillips.

MailOnline report that the City midfielder has had an Achilles operation, which will see him out until August, meaning he won’t get any pre-season minutes and clubs might be cautious to move for an injured player.

This doesn’t completely end Leeds’ hopes, but it’s certainly changed the chances of it happening this summer.

Operation could be great news for Phillips and Leeds could be intrigued

Although now it looks unlikely a deal will happen this window, further down the line, Leeds could still explore Phillips rejoining.

The 49ers will want to get deals sorted quickly, and will know they can’t leave signings to the last minute, with a pre-season around the squad crucial.

Eddie Gray is unsure on Phillips returning, but by having this operation, he could regain the spark he’s been missing and replicate his fortunes from his time at Leeds.

Farke might keep tabs on the 29-year-old just in case he sees a major improvement in Phillips.

The midfielder still wants the move, and if he can return to the form he had at Leeds, he’d be welcomed back to Thorp Arch with open arms.
