Former Hammer Teddy Sheringham believes West Ham should look to relegated Southampton in order to answer the club's goalkeeping issue.

The Hammers are on the hunt for a new stopper following the news that Lukasz Fabianski's contract will not be renewed when it expires next month.

That has seen West Ham linked with the likes of Liverpool's Caoimhin Kelleher and Southampton's Aaron Ramsdale.

And it is the latter who Sheringham believes would provide an able replacement for the departing Pole.

"I quite like Ramsdale," Sheringham told Prime Casino. "I like his character, so I would go for him if I were looking for a new goalkeeper at West Ham.

"What I think gives him the edge over Kelleher is his experience, he’s had more games in the Premier League. He’s full of life, and I liked him even when he was at Arsenal.

"It was just a shame he was at Arsenal! But I always liked his manner, he comes across well. He’s young enough, and he’s got the confidence you need."
