Jason Cundy has made an interesting selection when deciding Chelsea’s unsung hero of the 2024/25 campaign.
Even though Chelsea have received criticism from the media at various times in the season, it’s turned out to be a really positive one during Enzo Maresca’s first year as the club’s head coach.
The Blues secured fourth in the Premier League on the final day by winning 1-0 away to Nottingham Forest. In addition, the club completed the set of every major European trophy on Wednesday night by beating Real Betis 4-1 in the Conference League final.
Paul Scholes has praised Maresca because he considers it to be a great season for Chelsea.

Jason Cundy picks Levi Colwill as Chelsea’s ‘unsung hero’
According to former Blues player Jason Cundy, Chelsea’s Levi Colwill has gone under the radar for an impressive individual campaign.
The 22-year-old centre-half has been a key figure in the heart of defence, enjoying his second full season in the Blues first team. Now, it feels like the academy graduate is one of the first names on the team sheet most weeks.
When asked to pick his Chelsea unsung hero of the season, Cundy told talkSPORT: “I’m going Levi Colwill. He has developed this season…
“There is a leadership quality that I’m watching. He stepped up with a huge goal against Nottingham Forest. There is something about him now where he demands a first-team place. If Reece isn’t skipper, Enzo is; then Caicedo is the next one, and I think probably Levi is the one after that. He’s got that kind of quality about him.

“Developed as a young player, so much more to come. He hasn’t quite got the plaudits outside of Chelsea that I feel he deserves. He’s developed as a player, and he’s our unsung hero.”
While we would admit that Colwill’s form was a bit up and down earlier in the season, he’s really stood up at the business end of the season to help the club achieve their goals. In particular, he scored the winning goal against Forest on the final day to clinch a fourth-placed finish in the league.
Micah Richards thinks Colwill is improving as a defender in Chelsea colours. When you watch him play, it is easy to forget that he’s still only aged 22.
His league form across this season suggests that he’s one of the most talented young defenders in the division.

What Levi Colwill said when Bayern Munich came calling last summer
Back in the 2024 summer transfer window, Germany heavyweights Bayern Munich were linked with a move to sign Chelsea’s Colwill. Apparently, Colwill offered a firm rejection on the phone to Bayern after a call from officials at the Bundesliga club.
The left-footed defender was focused on his Blues career a year ago, and we see no reason for him to go anywhere else.
If we skip to the present day, Colwill recently admitted he would love to captain Chelsea after enjoying the journey from the academy to the first team.
The youngster has all the talent and potential to grow into one of the world’s leading centre-backs in the years ahead, so it feels like Cobham has produced yet another gem.
