Man United have been linked with a mind-blowing summer deal, as they continue their hunt for a new striker
It is more than evident how important this summer transfer window is for Manchester United. Ruben Amorim is as acutely aware of it as any, with his first summer at the club potentially defining both for his own career as a manager and for the club’s trajectory as a whole.
After a 15th-place Premier League finish compounded with Europa League final defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, a whole host of big-money signings have been linked with a move to Old Trafford after years of decline have reached a breaking point in recent months.
The signing of Wolves ace Matheus Cunha is reportedly imminent, while Brentford top scorer Bryan Mbeumo has also been linked with a £50m move to the Red Devils. Another potential transfer has emerged, and it could complete a new-look strike force for the 20-time top flight champions in the most earth-shattering move of them all.
Manchester United could move for Napoli star in mammoth swap deal
According to reports by Mail Online, Manchester United are in talks with Napoli regarding a swap deal involving Victor Osimhen and Rasmus Hojlund - though Napoli would also demand a huge fee on top of the transfer if they are to part ways with the Nigerian.
Osimhen has been renowned as one of the world’s best strikers for several years now, with big moves to the the Premier League not materialising in the past. The 26-year-old netted 36 goals in 40 appearances while on loan at Galatasaray in 2024/25, and Napoli will feel now is the time to move on the frontman after a successful season in his absence, where the Italian giants won their second Scudetto in three years.
Reports in Naples state that a swap deal involving Hojlund plus around £33.5m could be enough for United to land Osimhen, though the Red Devils will face major competition from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
Why a swap deal involving Victor Osimhen and Rasmus Hojlund could be the answer
This potential transfer would not only break the internet, it would kill multiple birds with one stone. Napoli want to cash in on Osimhen, while Hojlund has struggled this season at Old Trafford and may feel that a move away could be needed to get his career back on track. The club could be willing to sell, and where better than to Italy where Hojlund shone for Atalanta before his big-money move to Manchester in July 2023.
Financially-speaking, too, this move could work well for all parties. The only potential sticking point could be regarding Osimhen himself - after the horror show which has taken place at United this season, there is no guarantee that Osimhen would see Old Trafford as the ideal place to spend most of the prime years of his career.
Amorim and the United board will have their work cut out to convince him to join, and could use the potential arrivals of Cunha and Mbeumo as proof that United will soon be back where they feel they belong. If the Nigerian were to put pen to paper and sign for the Red Devils, this move could be a major turning point.
