'That's my later'– ex-Man Utd star admits'not many people knew what was going on'with one hidden detail from his playing career

Former England star Jesse Lingard has now spoken out on the “different things” that he was doing behind the scenes during his playing spell at Old Trafford.

Jesse Lingard came through the Manchester United youth academy and climbed into the Red Devils first-team squad during his time at the Premier League club.

The 32-year-old former United player made 232 senior appearances for the club and Lingard netted 35 times and registered 21 assists for the Red Devils.

Lingard lifted a Europa League trophy, an FA Cup and a League Cup during his spell at Old Trafford before his contract expired in 2022 and he left United.

The ex-United star went on to play for Nottingham Forest and Lingard had a disappointing spell with the Premier League club before he made his exit in 2023.

Lingard only made 20 appearances for Nottingham Forest and the former England international scored twice and picked up two assists during his time at City Ground.

FC Seoul star Jesse Lingard opens up on the trademark ‘J-Lingz’ celebration and how it came about at Man Utd

Jesse Lingard spent a brief period as a free agent before he made his return to football in 2024 after he moved to South Korea and signed for K League 1 side FC Seoul.

The ex-Three Lions international has been able to secure regular playing time at FC Seoul, including ascending to the club’s captaincy during his spell.

Lingard sat down with GQ Korea and the former Manchester United player revealed the inspiration behind his trademark ‘J-Lingz’ celebration, which he usually does after he scores.

The FC Seoul skipper is spotted putting his fists together and has an ‘L’ shape and a ‘J’ shape appearing on either side by using his thumbs and fingers.

“When I was at Manchester United, we played West Brom away. I was trying to practice that celebration,” he said.

“First, I was like doing different things. I turned ‘J’ and ‘L.’ So, if I scored today, I would do that celebration.

“So, I scored and did that. Not many people knew what was going on. And eventually, I explained what it means.

“That’s my alter ego, ‘J-Lingz.’ That’s my business, guy.”
