Aston Villa have submitted a £40 million bid to sign goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille, according to CaughtOffside.
Unai Emery has guided Aston Villa to European football for a third consecutive campaign. While there was disappointment that the Villans missed out on Champions League football on the final day, to be upset about such a thing is a testament to how far Emery has taken them since his 2022 appointment.
The Villans have a Europa League campaign to prepare for next season and are already looking at the transfer market. Emiliano Martinez’s future is in doubt, with reports suggesting that the Argentinian could be set for a move away from the Midlands within the coming weeks and months.
Should Martinez leave, Villa will need a replacement and, if recent reports are to be believed, have already submitted an offer for one.

Lucas Chevalier in action for Lille
Lucas Chevalier has been on the books of Lille's senior side since 2021, breaking into the first team two years later after a season away from the club on loan. Since then, Chevalier has developed into a brilliant shot-stopper who, at just 23 years of age, already has invaluable experience under his belt.

Villa have reportedly lodged a bid worth £40 million for Chevalier, who has been described as “phenomenal” for his performances with Lille. Manchester United are also believed to have an interest in the goalkeeper, but Chevalier may prefer a move to Villa, given they will be playing European football next season.
Chevalier’s potential move is entirely dependent on Martinez’s future, but he would be a brilliant replacement for the World Cup winner should he move on from Villa Park in the summer, with CaughtOffside reporting that an exit is expected for Martinez.
