Lions Named a Potential Landing Spot for Former Starting QB Whose Team Recently Replaced Him

The Detroit Lions have a quarterback battle that needs to play out ahed of the 2025 NFL season.

As it stands, Kyle Allen and Hendon Hooker are set to compete to back Jared Goff up of the 2025 season.

CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin has an idea for a trade that could really change the Lions' backup QB competition.

In a recent article, Benjamin named the Lions as a potential landing spot for Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis, who is believed to be on the trade block

Levis could actually be a really good fit for the Lions.

He may not have worked out as the starter for the Titans, but he would be an upgrade over either of the backup options currently in Detroit.

A move to the Lions would also give Levis a chance to get his career back on track as he was not set up well in Tennessee.

Despite not being selected until the second round of his draft, the Titans ended up throwing him into the fire just halfway through his rookie season.

He had some weapons to work with in DeAndre Hopkins and Derrick Henry, but the Titans couldn't protect him. He was sacked 28 times in nine games. He still managed to put together a couple of performances that flashed his potential.

In year two it became obvious he wasn't ready to be a starting QB in the NFL. The Titans still didn't block well, allowing Levis to be sacked 41 times in 12 games, but the organization got him a new coaching staff and Calvin Ridley.

Things still didn't work out, but Levis could benefit from some time behind Goff to continue developing.

At this point, a trade for Levis likely wouldn't cost much and the Lions could benefit from having a better insurance plan behind Goff.

He could also be a long-team answer as the second string QB as he'll turn 26 this month.

I can't imagine this would something that's high on the Lions' priority list, but it could be a move worth taking a look at for them if Levis is actually on the trade block.
