Manchester United youngster Chido Obi says he will "work hard" over the summer to be ready for the new season.

Obi made his first-team debut against Tottenham Hotspur in February and he's subsequently made further appearances from the bench after a promotion to Ruben Amorim's squad.

The 17-year-old has been prolific in academy fixtures and scored twice for the first-team against Hong Kong on Friday afternoon. United were losing 1-0 at half-time, but Obi was introduced for the second period and helped turn the game around as United won 3-1.

Obi's equalising goal was an instinctive finish in the box and his second was a superb header. After the victory, the youngster briefly spoke to MUTV and was asked how it felt to score a brace.. "Amazing." he said. "It's a big moment because I've been waiting a long time for it, so it's good."

Obi added: "Every time I get the opportunity, I stay out to do extra (training) with the finishing coach.

"In the break, I would like to work hard and stay fit, so I can be ready for next season."

He continued: "The fans here have been absolutely amazing. They cheer for us the whole game."

United are not expected to send Obi on loan this summer, meaning he will continue to be around the first-team next season, despite a streamlined schedule due to the absence of European football.

Ruben Amorim was asked about Obi after the game in Hong Kong and said: "He proved already in the Under-18s he can score goals. The Premier League is a completely different world but he has made a good start. He is working really well.

"I was really pleased with all the kids. Comparing this game to the last one, the way we faced the game. We were losing in first half, but that was completely different from the last game. That was a good thing."
