Atlanta Falcons Named 'Best Fit' For Veteran Wide Receiver

Although unlikely with very little cap space, and an already deep wide receiver room with young talent, Atlanta has been named the best landing spot for veteran wide receiver.

Keenan Allen has surprisingly been named the best fit for the Atlanta Falcons by Sports Illustrated's Gilberto Manzano. Allen could be considered past his prime, and the days of the monster contracts for him could be behind him. However, the 33-year-old wide receiver could be another weapon at the right price in a deep receiver room.

"Allen’s production slightly declined in his lone season with the Chicago Bears, but some of that should be attributed to Caleb Williams getting very little time to operate behind one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL," wrote Manzano "In his final season with the Chargers, Allen registered 108 catches for 1,243 yards."

"And it’s not like he fell off the cliff last season, recording 70 catches for 744 yards and seven touchdowns. Allen, 33, could help Michael Penix Jr. and Drake London in Atlanta. Unless tight end Kyle Pitts suddenly becomes a consistent target."

Allen would carry a $23.5 million cap hit last season. A signing seems unlikely with Atlanta only having just over $5 million in cap space. A trade would have to be in play to do so, but the Falcons have been known to sign plenty of players north of 30 years old in the past. In this situation, do not look for Atlanta to give up anything to bring in Allen.
