The Brentford attacker has had an impressive season, racking up 20 goals and eight assists in 38 games, helping the side finish 10th overall.

As such it’s no surprise that several Premier League sides are looking to the Cameroon international.

CentreDevils previously revealed that United are holding serious interest in Mbeumo and have contacted Brentford about his availability over recent weeks.

However, they aren’t the only ones with Newcastle United making Mbeumo a priority target for the summer.

Now, CentreDevils can reveal that The Red Devils and The Magpies have contacted Mbeumo and his representatives in recent days to explore the possibility of a move from Brentford.

The contacts are said to be very early and it is not advanced yet, but the deal could move really fast, especially if United make a sale.

It’s understood that Brentford are holding a £50 million price tag for their star, with United hoping to make sales quickly to place a bid and beat Newcastle who currently lead the race.

However, United do have another route to lure Mbeumo to Old Trafford in the form of his former teammate Christian Eriksen.

When the pair were at Brentford, Mbeumo commented: “He [Eriksen] just explained to us when he came now I’m fully recovered, I’m ready to play and if anybody’s got a question you can ask me about it and I will reply [about his heart attack].

“I think he gave us confidence. He’s working hard and he’s a world-class player.”

It’s clear the attacker holds Eriksen in high regard, and with clubs routinely using links like this to lure in new talent, Eriksen’s role at Old Trafford might not yet be over.
