Thunder Could Reunite With Former Player in ‘Dream’ Trade Scenario

The Oklahoma City Thunder are still awaiting the winner of the Eastern Conference Finals as they now prepare for their first NBA Finals appearance since 2012.

It has been a dominant season for the Thunder as they finished the regular season with the best record in the NBA and they were able to ease their way to the NBA Finals, though the Denver Nuggets tested them in the second round.

While the Thunder are trying to end the season with a championship, they could also look to upgrade their roster even more in the offseason thanks to their multitude of young players and plethora of draft picks.

Of course, the Thunder have been linked to many players such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant and Zion Williamson.

While all of those players would be a great addition to Oklahoma City’s roster, Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz recently named Sacramento Kings and former Thunder center Domantas Sabonis as one of their dream trade targets.

“Sabonis would be a supercharged version of Isaiah Hartenstein next to Holmgren in the frontcourt, someone who rebounds at a high level, is a terrific passer and can score from all three levels,” Swartz wrote.

Of course, Sabonis was drafted 11th overall in 2016 by the Orlando Magic who traded him to the Thunder with Victor Oladipo for Serge Ibaka.

Sabonis played just one season in Oklahoma City before they traded him to the Indiana Pacers for Paul George in 2017, a move that would come in clutch later on as the Thunder moved George to the Los Angeles Clippers for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in 2019.

Indiana then moved Sabonis to the Kings in 2022 for Tyrese Haliburton, another trade working in the favor of the team trading him.

Despite this, Sabonis has carved out a successful career in the NBA as he is one of the league’s most underrated centers.

If the Thunder do consider reuniting with Sabonis this summer, he would give them another elite rebounder to go along with a great passer and scorer that could help them make another run at the NBA Finals next season.
