Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has ruled out the possibility of Bruno Fernandes making a move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal amid rumours of a potential exit.
United finished their post-season tour of Southeast Asia on Friday having beaten Hong Kong 3-1 despite going a goal down.
The Manchester club, who finished 15th in the Premier League, lost their first of two international matches to put more of a dampener on Amorim’s first season — and were struck with more bad news when hearing that Fernandes’ agent held positive talks with Al-Hilal on Thursday.
But Amorim has ruled the transfer out and believes the United captain wants to stay at the club as they look ahead to a paramount summer of reparation.
“Bruno [Fernandes]’s last game? I don’t think so. I think he wants to stay.
“I talk to him and when you talk to someone, you feel he wants to stay. He knows what we’re doing, everytime I talk to him I have the feeling he wants to continue, but you never know.
“He is saying no to a lot of things but it shows that he wants to win and I think he’s really young, he’s really good, he needs to be in the best league in the world.”
Not long after those questions regarding Fernandes' future, Amorim was faced with more concern over whether or not United would be able to turn down a sumptuous offer from Saudi Arabia.
Al-Hilal is reported to have offered Fernandes a deal worth around £700,000 per week, which is more than double of what he earns at Old Trafford in his current contract.
But Amorim said directly that the club can look in other areas for more financial stability: “We can find another way to make money.”
Chido Obi is 'proven goalscorer', says Amorim
One of the goalscorers from Friday’s encounter was Chido Obi who gave United the lead after 82 minutes after levelling the game up five minutes into the second half.
The 17-year-old has earned minutes in the Premier League this season but is yet to be an established choice under Amorim, who said he appreciates his hard work and knows what he is capable of.
He said: “He [Obi] has proven with the youngsters that he is capable of scoring goals.
“Of course, the Premier League is a completely different world, but it's a good start, he's working hard. I'm very happy with all the youngsters we've brought in.”
