San Francisco 49ers acquire DE Bryce Huff from Eagles

As defensive coordinator Robert Saleh returns to the Bay Area after spending three seasons as head coach of the New York Jets, the San Francisco 49ers continue to rework their defense.

Drafting primarily defensive players in the 2025 NFL Draft, including plenty of talented defensive linemen, they’re also making additions on the trade market.

According to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, the 49ers acquired edge rusher Bryce Huff from the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles. Huff spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Jets, mostly under Saleh’s coaching.

His best season came in 2023 with New York, tallying 10 sacks and 29 tackles, 10 for loss. His production dipped last season, but Saleh is familiar with the 6’3 DE.

49ers have or will add at least three former Jets who played under Robert Saleh in the span of a week:

According to ESPN, the Eagles “will take on $9.05 million in salary, leaving the Niners to handle the remaining $7.95 million this season.”

Huff’s entire contract equates to $16.75 million in fully guaranteed money this coming season, but it will be split between the two franchises as mentioned.

There’s a clear re-working that Saleh — along with head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch — are shooting for headed into 2025.

And they’ve added another layer to it after adding Bryce Huff from Philadelphia.
