The Milwaukee Brewers are back on track and are playing good baseball. On Friday night, they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-2 in order to secure their fifth straight win. This victory put them just two games over .500, but more importantly they looked more like the team that won the division a season ago.
Brewers fifth straight win was pure Milwaukee baseball

With one of the Phillies’ excellent starters, Taijuan Walker, on the mound, the Brewers pounced early, scoring two runs in the first inning and applying pressure with two stolen bases. After securing the early lead, opener DL Hall made his first start for Milwaukee since September 15. Hall pitched well, tossing three scoreless innings, striking out four, and allowing just one baserunner.

Quinn Priester followed Hall on the mound and, after giving up a run on back-to-back hits in the fourth inning, quickly found his rhythm. He went on to become the final arm used by Pat Murphy, efficiently cruising through the rest of the game. Priester induced a whopping 16 ground-ball outs, including an impressive stretch of eight in a row, and needed just 71 pitches to cover the final six innings.
Leading the charge for Milwaukee offensively was Christian Yelich. He extended his seven game hit streak in this contest while also picking up his second multi-home run game of the season. A three run blast by Yelich in the fifth inning gave the Brewers a 5-1 lead and a solo homer in the ninth inning gave them an insurance run by expanding the lead to 6-2.
Other notes from this game included center fielder Jackson Chourio having a nice diving catch early in the game. Additionally, William Contreras had a three hit game and collected his 500th career hit.
Between using an opener, stealing five bases, seeing vintage Christian Yelich, and the Brewers defense playing well, this game seemed like the formula Milwaukee used to win the division a season ago. Hopefully they can carry this momentum into tomorrow’s game, where they will take on the Phillies at 3:05 PM CT.
