'Ideally...': Aaron Cresswell's stance on Wrexham transfer revealed as Phil Parkinson is…

Wrexham are aware of Aaron Cresswell’s situation after departing West Ham United but face a challenge in luring the defender to the club, Wrexham Insider understands.

Phil Parkinson is looking to bolster his Wrexham squad ahead of the Championship campaign and has eyed Cresswell as a potential option.

Fans were delighted with Wrexham’s link to Cresswell given the player’s vast experience in the Premier League and his ability to play in more than one position.

Wrexham’s ‘advantage’ in the Cresswell race was due to the defender wanting to be closer to his home town of Merseyside but Wrexham Insidercan now reveal the player’s true feelings on his future.

Aaron Cresswell’s stance on Wrexham transfer revealed

Wrexham’s owners have vowed to be ‘aggressive’ this summer and securing the signature of a player of Cresswell’s calibre would certainly vindicate those comments.

Parkinson admitted his intention to explore free agents and with Cresswell’s contract expiring at the end of June, the Red Dragons are ready to pounce.

However, TBR Football’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey has told Wrexham Insider that Cresswell still believes he can play in the top flight.

Bailey stated: “I am told on Cresswell he would ideally like to stay in the Premier League. He was on big wages but is on Wrexham’s radar.”

Wrexham should focus on other defensive targets

Whilst Cresswell is a player with vast amounts of experience and quality, Parkinson should be looking elsewhere in his pursuit of defensive reinforcements.

Wrexham are interested in Harry Darling and the Swansea man would represent better value for money in terms of his wage demands and age profile.

Maksym Talovierov’s complicated Plymouth situation could make that a difficult deal to seal following interest from the Red Dragons.

However, a younger option should be considered by Parkinson to blend with the likes of Max Cleworth and Lewis Brunt – Wrexham can build a solid defence for the future.
