Manchester United are set to offload a number of players this summer as they look to keep on the right side of financial rules

Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho remains in talks with Chelsea as he looks to secure a permanent exit from Old Trafford, it has been reported.

The former Borussia Dortmund man scored the decisive third goal in Chelsea’ 4-1 victory over Real Betis in the UEFA Europa Conference League final on Wednesday night. He has also helped the Blues secure a spot in the Champions League.

Sancho joined Chelsea on loan last summer with an obligation to buy of between £20m-£25m. The Blues can get out of that agreement if they pay a £5m penalty to United. If that was to happen, the Red Devils would still be able to sell the forward for around £15m and secure a total of £20m when adding the £5m Chelsea would need to pay.

However, it is currently up in the air what is going to happen with Sancho, who has spent the last 18 months away from Old Trafford after a public fallout with former manager Erik ten Hag in September 2023.

Jadon Sancho transfer latest

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Sancho is in talks with Chelsea ahead of a potential permanent switch but that he must take a pay-cut to be back at Stamford Bridge next season. He reported on X: “Chelsea are in active talks with Jadon Sancho’s agents to understand salary requests as crucial point ahead of the final decision on player’s future. Chelsea won’t match Sancho’s current salary at Manchester United, talks to follow - and decision to be made in few days.”

The i Paper have also shed some light on the situation saying that Chelsea have long been considering paying the £5m to send Sancho back to United but the player could remain in West London after impressing manager Enzo Maresca in the final stretch of the campaign. However, £25m is said to still be seen as a steep asking price. The Blues are in a stronger financial position following their qualification for the Champions League.

What Enzo Maresca has said

After winning the Europa Conference League, Maresca addressed Sancho’s future. He said: “We are going to sit with the club and decide what happens for next year. If we finish fourth it is also because of Jadon, if we win tonight it is also because of Jadon. It is normal in a season to go a little bit up and down.”

Asked on his future, Maresca added: “I don’t know. I said that when in the last weeks you asked me about different players, I always said the same. And the reason why is because it's the truth.

“It's not the moment, we have the final. Then in 24 hours, 48 hours, we're going to start to talk about the future. But at this moment, there is not any thought or any decision made on Jadon or any different players.”
