All the records we broke in 2024/25

2024/25 was another campaign where our club statisticians and historians were left scrambling through their record books as we achieved a number of firsts and highs across the campaign.

From blooding youth products to scoring a hatful of goals on numerous occasions, Mikel Arteta’s team have kept pushing the limits and creating all sorts of historic moments.

Here are some of the key ones we’ve dug out from another eventful 12 months:

HITTING NEW HEIGHTS

Our 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in November was our 2,000th win in the English top-flight, making us just the second side to reach this milestone after Liverpool.

We’ve now won our final league game in each of the last 14 seasons, setting a new all-time top-flight record in the process.

The 5-1 triumph against Crystal Palace just before Christmas was the sixth time we had scored five or more goals in an away game across all competitions in 2024, the most ever by an English top-flight club in a single calendar year.

We became the first visiting side to win each of our first two games against Real Madrid at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, while we also remain the opponent Madrid have faced the most in major European competition without ever beating, which now stands at four games.

Our 2-2 draw with Liverpool in May saw Gabriel Martinelli keep up his club record of never losing a game in which he’s scored in for us, which now stands at 45 games.

Sensational scorelines

When we beat PSV Eindhoven 7-1 in February, we became the first team in Champions League history to score 7 or more goals away from home in a knockout game.

It was the first time we had hit seven in any competition since December 2012, when we beat Newcastle United 7-3 in the Premier League, and in Europe for the first time since October 2007 when Slavia Prague were beaten 7-0. It was our biggest win on the road in Europe since November 1993 when we battered Standard Liege 7-0 on our way to winning the Cup Winners’ Cup.

When we beat Sporting 5-1 in Lisbon, it brought to an end the Portuguese side’s 30-game unbeaten run at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Courtesy of our 3-0 success at Emirates Stadium and the 2-1 victory in Spain, our 5-1 aggregate success over Real Madrid was just the fourth time os Blancos had lost a two-legged knockout tie in the European Cup/Champions League by four or more goals.

RECORD RUNS

By beating Sporting Lisbon, Girona, PSV Eindhoven and Real Madrid, we equalled our longest ever away winning run in the European Cup/Champions League of four games.

Mikel Merino’s brace to beat Leicester City in February saw us extend our unbeaten streak to 15 games in the Premier League, our longest since a 16-game run between December 2010 and April 2011 under Arsene Wenger.

By beating Southampton on the final day, our unbeaten away run has extended to 14 league games, our longest stretch without defeat on the road since going 27 games between April 2003 and September 2004.

Individual accolades

Bukayo Saka became the second player in Premier League history to provide an assist in each of a team's first five games of a season, after Thierry Henry in 2004/05. He was also the first player to provide an assist in five successive league appearances for us (during any stage of a season) since Mesut Ozil in November 2015.

In December, Saka both scored and assisted in three consecutive appearances against Nottingham Forest, Sporting Lisbon and West Ham United,  becoming the first player to do so for us since Cesc Fabregas in September 2007.

Saka is one of only three Premier League players to reach double figures for both goals and assists across all competitions in each of the last three seasons along with Mohamed Salah and Bruno Fernandes.

In October, Kai Havertz became the first player to score in seven consecutive home appearances for us in all competitions since Robin van Persie between December 2011 and March 2012.

Before our Champions League semi-final first leg defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, Jakub Kiwior had gone 22 consecutive starts without defeat across all competitions, the longest run by an Arsenal player since Shkodran Mustafi (22) between September 2016 and January 2017.

Young (and old) Guns

Against Bolton Wanderers in the League Cup, we handed four teenagers their debuts - Jack Porter, Josh Nicols, Ismael Kabia and Maldini Kacurri. This was the most in the same game since October 2015 against Sheffield Wednesday when Alex Iwobi, Krystian Bielik, Ismael Bennacer and Glen Kamara made their bows.

Most significantly on that night, Porter became the youngest ever player to start a competitive game for us, aged just 16 years and 72 days old, breaking a record previously held by Cesc Fabregas, while Kacurri became the first Albanian to represnt the club.

More history was made that night when Nwaneri (17y 188d) became our youngest scorer since Jack Wilshere against Sheffield United in September 2008, and the youngest player to score twice in a game for us since Arturo Lupoli against Everton in November 2004 (17y 138d).

Ethan continued his fine breakout season, and became the youngest player to score in each of his first two starts for the club (17y 223d), and eight of his nine goals in all competitions came before he turned 18. Only Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney (9 each) have scored more goals for a Premier League side in all competitions before that milestone. In our famous 5-1 demolition of Manchester City, Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly netted, which marked the first time we had two teenagers score in the same league game since September 1986 against Sheffield Wednesday when Tony Adams and Niall Quinn got on the scoresheet.

Tommy Setford’s appearance against Preston North End in the fourth round meant that this season was the first time we’d fielded two different teenage keepers in the same campaign.

Meanwhile, against Girona in January, Neto became our oldest debutant for nearly 110 years, aged 35 years and 194 days, going back to the days of Ned Liddell who was 36 years and 308 days old when he played for the first time in April 1915.

MILESTONE MOMENTS

In our 5-1 success over Crystal Palace in December, Saka played his 250th game for the club, while Brazilian duo Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel both passed the 200 mark in January, with the winger doing so against Brighton & Hove Albion, while Big Gabi was a few weeks later at Girona.

Martinelli also brought up 50 goals for the club when he scored against Ipswich Town in April, becoming the fourth-youngest player in the Premier League era to reach this milestone for us (23y 306d), after Saka (22y 159d), Fabregas (23 y 134d), and Theo Walcott (23y 235d).

Thomas Partey and Ben White reached 150 Gunners games during the campaign, while Leandro Trossard, William Saliba and Rice all hit a century. Meanwhile, Martin Odegaard captained us for the 100th time against Fulham in December, while Rice donned the armband on the final day to see us reach 50 captains in the Premier League.
