Report: Erik ten Hag is a big fan of £25m Man City player who is keen to join Bayer Leverkusen

Manchester City fans will see several of their current squad head for the exit door at the Etihad Stadium this summer.

After a tough 2024/25 campaign, change is coming to Pep Guardiola’s squad, as the legendary coach will not want to experience another season such as the one he has just had.

Man City started this process by allowing Kevin De Bruyne to leave. At the same time, the Manchester club are also open to allowing Ilkay Gundogan to depart this summer, and it is almost certain that Ederson will leave the Premier League side.

In addition to the older players at Etihad Stadium, several fringe players will be moved on, and one of them is now keen on a move to Germany, as new Bayer Leverkusen boss Erik ten Hag has always been a fan of the Man City star.

James McAtee ready to move to the Bundesliga

It was reported on Friday that James McAtee is set to leave Man City after the club allowed him to represent England this summer at the Under-21 European Championship, which would see him miss the FIFA Club World Cup.

This has given the green light to the host of interested clubs who want to sign the midfielder, who can be acquired this summer for around £25m.

According to Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag wanted to bring McAtee to Man United when he was in charge of the Red Devils and is keen to work with him in Germany as Bayer Leverkusen remain interested in the Englishman.

The Bundesliga outfit had an approach turned down for the 22-year-old in January, while they will face competition from their rivals in Germany as Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, and Stuttgart are also keeping an eye on McAtee’s situation at Man City.

The report states that the Englishman is keen on a move to the Bundesliga, given how he has seen similar players shine in the league and enjoy regular Champions League football; however, the Premier League remains an option as several clubs are interested in the City star.

Leeds United are also in the race for McAtee, as the Yorkshire club are looking to strengthen their squad upon their return to the English top flight.
