United legend pens new 3-year deal with Serie A club, he'll play in Europe next season -…

Former Manchester United star David de Gea has signed a new deal with Fiorentina.

The Spaniard played 545 times for the club after moving from Atletico Madrid in 2011 to be Edwin van der Sar’s replacement.

He struggled at the start of his career at United but eventually found his feet and became widely regarded as one of the best shot stoppers of the 2010s.

As his United career went on, individual errors would begin to creep back in and the club decided not to offer him a new deal in 2023.

He went a full season without signing for a club but joined Fiorentina last summer as a free agent.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has now reported that the keeper has penned a new deal until the summer of 2028.

The Italians saw off competition from AS Monaco and retained the services of the 34 year old.

De Gea impressed this season as he played 41 times for the club and helped them finish sixth in the league, where they will play in the Conference League next season.

He kept 11 clean sheets and saved three penalties as he proved to be a pivotal member of the first eleven.

His side almost made it to the final of this year’s Conference League but lost narrowly to Real Betis at the semi-final stage.

Posting on his own X page at the end of the campaign he claimed, “the season comes to an end and we completed one of our aims – European football once again.”

“I want to thank the club my teammates and the Fiorentina supporters – we always battled – fighting for the crest and gave everything we had.”
