Julian Nagelsmann says he didn’t advise former Bayern Munich transfer target Florian Wirtz on…

News that stung the Bayern Munich community hard was Florian Wirtz’s decision to choose Liverpool FC. The Rekordmeister, for long, had chased and hoped to serenade Wirtz with the Bavarian dream. For months, the club moved with this surety that everything would work out. With the youngster’s ultimate decision, all that remained was several crushed hopes and some hurt egos.

As the fans and media attempt to postulate what went on behind the scenes, they turned to the manager of die Mannschaft, Julian Nagelsmann. It was speculated that the former Bayern manager might have a role to play.

Often, national team coaches play a very special role in a player’s journey. Whether it is by providing them advice on career advancement, or on football per se, such coaches tend to make the most out of even the minimal time they work with.

However, speculations of Nagelsmann’s involvement were squashed by a recent statement. Abendzeitung’s Maximilian Koch spoke to the manager, who revealed that he has no role in the events. “I’ve never told a player to move here or there,” he said, as transcribed by @iMiaSanMia. “What’s important is that he plays - and plays a similarly important role to the one he played in Leverkusen. We know that he’s one of the best players in the world.”

The current Premier League champions are looking to incorporate Wirtz’s versatility and skillset to continue their winning streak, and have several positions where he might be an ideal candidate. Yet, it remains to be seen whether Wirtz will truly find his best form in Liverpool.
