Nottingham Forest transfer notebook - uncertain future addressed and wonderkid 'on radar'

An important summer will begin in earnest for Nottingham Forest tomorrow when the transfer window opens.

Premier League clubs will have an initial period from June 1 until June 10 to start overseeing business before the window closes for a brief time. It will then reopen on June 16 and remain so until September 1.

The Reds have a big few months ahead as they aim to tweak head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad in readiness for their return to Europe for the first time in 30 years. Below, NottinghamshireLive takes a look at the latest Forest transfer talk.

Uncertain future

Several outgoings are likely to be on the cards this summer as the Reds look to move on a number of fringe players. Goalkeeper Matt Turner could be among them, with the American indicating he is unsure what the future holds.

Turner spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Crystal Palace, making four appearances and being on the bench at Wembley as the Eagles won the FA Cup. He has always been clear about his ambition to play regularly, and that is unlikely to happen at the City Ground.

In a post on Instagram, the 30-year-old said: “Thank you @cpfc and the fans for making this such a memorable year in so many ways! Etching my name into the club’s history books alongside my teammates was a huge honor!

“The people around the club made every single day enjoyable, it really was a special chemistry that we had harnessed, I’m mostly glad that was shown on the pitch as well. This club’s relationship with the fans is so intimate, and you all are ready for your European adventure!

“We shall see what the future holds for me! But until then, have a great summer everyone.”

Big draw

Some have questioned whether missing out on the Champions League could affect Forest’s ability to attract players. Does the Conference League have the same pulling power?

If comments from Slavia Prague boss Jindrich Trpisovsky are anything to go by, the Reds should not have any trouble on that front. The 49-year-old has admitted he could do little to prevent any of his star players heading to the City Ground, should Forest come calling.

Defender Igoh Ogbu recently signed a contract extension with Slavia. But for Trpisovsky, even that is no guarantee heads won’t be turned.

“Igoh Ogbu extended his contract, which was extremely important for us. He wants to stay here, he wants to play in the Champions League,” Trpisovsky told Infotbal. “But in August it could happen that Nottingham or Newcastle call and say they need a defender. And he'll leave anyway.”

Wonderkid wanted

The Reds are said to be keeping tabs on promising Copenhagen forward Roony Bardghji ahead of the transfer window opening. But it seems they would face a fight to snap up the talented teenager, if they decide to make a push for his signature.

According to GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham Hotspur are in pole position to land the 19-year-old. However, potential interest from Forest “is being explored” along with that of Manchester United and Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have been tracking the youngster for some time. Lazio and Lille are also said to be keen.

Bardghji is said to be “open” to linking up with Spurs but it is not yet certain that the London club will follow up their interest, potentially allowing the Reds to steal a march. The Sweden Under-21 international could be available for as little as £10 million as his contract with Copenhagen is due to expire at the end of the year.

Berry good

Teenager Adam Berry has been tipped for a bright future after penning a new deal at the Nigel Doughty Academy. The 19-year-old has extended his stay with the Reds for a further 12 months, until the summer of 2026.

Berry joined Forest from Manchester United last year and racked up plenty of game time with Warren Joyce’s B Team during the season just gone. He made 10 Premier League 2 appearances for the club.

“We are delighted for Adam that he will continue his development with us having been at the club for just over a year now,” head of academy Chris McGuane said. “Adam is an exciting creative player who can play in a number of positions across the forward line and has the ability to create and score goals. He deserves to have this chance, and we look forward to seeing how he progresses next season.”

Berry, meanwhile, is confident the best is yet to come. He was part of the Reds squad to lift the Premier League International Cup earlier this month.

“I am buzzing to have signed a new deal and can’t wait for next season,” he told Forest’s official website. “This is a great opportunity to kick on and improve ahead of what should be an exciting season. It was great to be a part of the International Cup win, hopefully we can win another trophy next year.”

Do the club need to sell?

The Reds go into the summer window in a healthy financial position. They are not under pressure to sell their star players to raise funds.

However, their resolve to hang on to key men may well still be tested. The likes of Morgan Gibbs-White, Murillo and Anthony Elanga all have their admirers.

What do you think the team needs?

Strength in depth. Resources were stretched towards the end of the 2024/25 campaign as Forest made it to the semi-finals of the FA Cup and chased a top-five finish. Players looked exhausted by the end as they had to settle for coming seventh and qualifying for the Conference League.

Given they will have additional games to contend with next term, the Reds will need a bigger squad. Ensuring there is sufficient cover and competition across the pitch will help them to kick on again.
