The grind never stops - Bruno Guimaraes shares post-season gym shots with fitness fanatic wife

Newcastle United skipper Bruno Guimaraes puts in the hard yards in his homeland ahead of Brazil’s end of season encounters.

While others take the time between the domestic season ending and an international one, albeit briefly, sparking up to get some well-earned R&R, Guimaraes doesn’t know the meaning of the words. Ahead of taking to the field for Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil side next week, the Carabao Cup hero has been spotted working out while back in his homeland.

Guimaraes took to Instagram this week to show himself in training with his wife and a personal trainer in the gym in Brazil. He then posted a separate shot to his story of his trainers, him sitting on the floor and some free weights in the background. It seems Bruno is not taking the new manager being at the helm lightly, with the former Lyon man keen to make an impression after recent criticism in the Brazilian press.

Bruno Guimaraes for Brazil

Guimaraes will be in the Brazil squad for Ancelotti’s first match in charge, which takes place in Ecuador, next Friday. Kick off at midnight GMT. And he will be hoping to help turnaround his country’s poor form against the side who currently sit second top of South American qualifying for the World Cup next year, behind only Argentina. Ecuador have lost just twice and conceded just five goals so far in qualifying, the least of any team in the format.

Brazil then take on Miguel Almiron’s Paraguay on Wednesday, in what could be deemed a crucial qualifier with Guimaraes & Co sitting fourth in the table and their opposition fifth, level on points but separated by just two goals after 14 games.

Bruno Guimaraes - Carabao Cup hero

Guimaraes became the first Newcastle United captain since Bob Moncur to bring silverware back to Tyneside, as the Magpies won the Carabao Cup in March this year.

It was Newcastle’s first trophy since the Fairs Cup in 1969 and the club’s first domestic silverware since the summer of 1955, when United won their sixth FA Cup.
