Newcastle United are set to release a forgotten player this summer who has not played under Eddie Howe since 2023.
Several players, including Mark Gillespie and John Ruddy, look set to leave the club this summer. The two shot-stoppers have failed to make a single Premier League appearance this season and are out of contract in the summer.
Eddie Howe could look to move the pair on in favour of signing a younger goalkeeper or an older player with “club-trained” status for Champions League squad registration.
Amid all the impending departures, Callum Wilson’s future at Newcastle United is still up in the air. Reports suggested that Wilson would be leaving Newcastle this summer, having lost his place in the starting XI to Alexander Isak.
However, it has since been revealed that Wilson has been offered an incentive-based contract at Newcastle with added motivation to keep himself fit and in good form.
While Howe awaits Wilson’s decision, it has already been confirmed that one forgotten Newcastle player will be leaving the club this summer.

Despite signing for £12m in 2021, Jamal Lewis has failed to live up to expectations at Newcastle. The defender joined the Magpies under Steve Bruce and was given regular starts, but it all came crashing down under Howe, who barely played him when he arrived.
Lewis only played twice in the historic 2022/23 season, both of them as a late substitute. The 26-year-old spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Watford before making a bizarre loan switch to Brazilian side Sao Paulo this season.

Sadly, Lewis picked up a season-ending injury in Brazil and was forced to cut his loan short and return to Newcastle.
In an interview last September, Lewis shared an honest conversation with Howe and said that he knew the writing about his Newcastle career was on the wall after that.
It has also been revealed that Lewis has now also deleted his Instagram account ahead of his departure, although his X account remains active.
With Lewis’ Newcastle exit all but confirmed, he leaves having made just 36 appearances for the club.
Callum Wilson could fall down the pecking order at Newcastle United
With his contract entering the final month, the ball is in Wilson’s court to make a final decision on his future. The 33-year-old has the opportunity to stay on Tyneside for another season or find more minutes elsewhere.
Leeds are reportedly interested in Wilson as well as Sean Longstaff, whose future is also looking like it could be away from the club he has spent all of his career at.
Newcastle want to sign a striker this summer to provide backup for Alexander Isak. If Howe is able to bring a new player in, it could mean Wilson is pushed further down the pecking order on Tyneside and has a very slim chance of playing.
Wilson admitted he was frustrated with his game time at Newcastle, so a new striker would only add more anger if he ended up staying.
