Sunday marks the start of this summer's much-anticipated transfer window - at least in its initial stage.
June 1 is also the start of sporting director Paul Mitchell's final month at Newcastle United before leaving by mutual consent, as announced earlier this week. That date is also the deadline for clubs to submit their annual retain list, as per Football Association rules, which the Magpies have yet to announce, at least publicly.
Attention, though, is understandably firmly on the prospect of new signings - especially after much of Newcastle's business last year happened before July began. Here's a round-up of the latest transfer news;
Mbeumo update
Neither Manchester United nor Newcastle are, reputedly, the front-runners to sign Bryan Mbeumo, at this stage, despite reports from Football Insider that the Magpies are leading the race. Albeit, the outlet acknowledges that Manchester United are pushing to agree a deal.
Newcastle are also thought to have not yet agreed a fee, with Brentford reportedly wanting around £50-60million. GIVEMESPORT claims that, while both clubs like Mbeumo, it is still an open race to sign the Cameroon international.
ChronicleLive says: Champions League football should give Newcastle an edge over United in the transfer market this summer. With their rivals reportedly already committing to paying £20.8million for Matheus Cunha this summer - and another £41.7million to follow over the next two years - the Magpies also have an advantage financially.
Grealish timeline
Jack Grealish will - reportedly - be one of the first players to leave Manchester City this summer. Football Insider claims the expectation is for an exit over the coming weeks.
The £100million man wanting to impress England head coach Thomas Tuchel before next year's World Cup is also flagged up. Newcastle, reputedly, is emerging as a potential destination.
ChronicleLive says: Grealish seemingly being available this month rather than remaining at City until later in the window would suit Newcastle. Head coach Eddie Howe has spoken about wanting the club to do its business early, and if the club do want the former Aston Villa captain, then doing a deal before pre-season begins appears doable.
