Former Celtic invincible looks set to miss out on Man City move as Pep Guardiola makes decision

A former Celtic star looks set to miss out on linking up with Pep Guardiola as Manchester City prepare to revamp their coaching staff.

Celtic’s coaching staff have been well-assembled by Brendan Rodgers with plenty of trustworthy names forming part of the backroom staff.

That was no different for Guardiola at Man City, but after losing Juanma Lillo, Inigo Domínguez and Carlos Vicens.

That trio have departed though and one former Celtic player was among the list of possible appointments, but it seems he is set to miss out on the job.

Kolo Toure looking likely to miss out on Man City reunion

Kolo Toure was a part of the Celtic invincibles side and was brought to the club by Rodgers.

Since retiring, Toure has been working as a coach and even had a brief stint as Wigan Athletic manager, but failed to impress and was sacked in January 2023.

Fabrizio Romano reported that he would be going head-to-head with Pep Lijnders, who worked with Rodgers as assistant manager at Liverpool before staying to work under Jurgen Klopp.

He had a disappointing tenure in charge of Red Bull Salzburg and was sacked but, according to Romano, is set to join Guardiola as his new assistant at Toure’s expense, although there could still be room to appoint him.
