Two former Manchester United players are reportedly on their way to reunite with Erik ten Hag at Bayer Leverkusen. ETH has been appointed as the German side’s head coach.
Manchester United Pair to Join Bayer Leverkusen ?
Having left Manchester United in October 2024, Erik ten Hag was able to work again in Bundesliga football, as it turns out, the new head coach of Bayer Leverkusen after Xabi Alonso became **Real Madrid**‘s coach.
Leverkusen has also lost two first team players, Jeremie Frimpong and Jonathan Tah. It is starting to look more of an emptiness, therefore they need new players sooner rather than later. Ten Hag wasted little time in returning to work.
Now, he will look to sign two players he already knows from his time at Old Trafford. Brazilian winger Antony and Argentine young forward Alejandro Garnacho are on his radar. He looks to build a solid squad before the new season kicks off.
Antony’s Bundesliga Revival and Garnacho’s Fallout
Antony followed the Dutch tactician from Ajax to The Red Devils for a whopping £85.5 million. But, he struggled to make an impact in the Premier League. Labeled a flop by fans and media, his time in England never really took off. But a loan spell at Real Betis breathed new life into his career. With 9 goals and 5 assists in 26 games, he helped the Spanish side reach the UEFA Conference League final.
Despite his great run, Betis can’t afford a permanent deal. With a current value of £17 million, Utd are now open to selling him elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Garnacho’s story is different. The young winger had a breakout under Ten Hag. But, he has reportedly clashed with current manager Ruben Amorim over limited game time. Sources suggest their relationship is broken beyond repair, and the club is willing to cash in.
He has a market value of at least £47 million, possibly rising to £55 million. Though his exit would be pure profit for the club. For Ten Hag, bringing these two back could be the first step in restoring his style and success in Germany.
