Another tight end with ties to Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith could be on the trade block. NFL insider Jordan Schultz says multiple teams have inquired about Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts.
“Multiple teams have reached out to the Falcons about the availability of TE Kyle Pitts.Nothing is imminent, and Atlanta would prefer to keep him — but I’m told it would take at least a Day 2 pick to even spark serious talks," Schultz said.
Smith coached Pitts during his years as the Atlanta Falcons’ head coach. The first issue with the deal, however, is the cost. The Steelers are unlikely to trade a day-two pick to add a tight end.
The Pitts trade rumors come on the heels of the Jonnu Smith rumors, where ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the Steelers have had talks to land the Dolphins playmaker.
Smith wants a reworked contract. He is scheduled to make $4.8 million this season but would like that number to be increased. If the Steelers did land Smith, it would come with a new deal. Schefter says Smith would like to stay in Miami.
As for Pitts, he has never reached the heights of being a top five pick at tight end. He had 47 receptions for 602 yards and four touchdowns last season and had one year of 1000 yards, which came in his rookie season.
Pitts now heads into the final year of his contract, and it will be a big year for him to prove just how much he is worth in the NFL.
