David de Gea makes major decision over his future, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford respond

David de Gea has decided on his future after enjoying the past season in Italy with Fiorentina.

The 2024/25 season is over, which is a good thing as far as Manchester United is concerned.

For former United goalkeeper David de Gea, it was a chance to experience life in Italy after he signed for Serie A outfit Fiorentina on a one-year contract.

De Gea arrived at Fiorentina after taking a year out from football following the expiration of his contract at United.

However, that did not stop De Gea from performing at a high level in Florence, making 42 appearances on top of 11 clean sheets

Although it’s a completely different lifestyle from the one De Gea enjoyed in Manchester for 12 years of his life, the 34-year-old is still celebrated as a world-class shot-stopper with more to offer.

United haven’t had the best of luck trying to replace De Gea, with Andre Onana struggling over the past two years and Altay Bayindir likely to leave in the summer.

David de Gea extends contract at Fiorentina

It was a good season for Fiorentina as they finished sixth in Serie A and reached the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League before being beaten by an Antony-inspired Real Betis side.

De Gea commented on one of the two goals Antony scored in the two-legged affair, but the Spaniard still reflects positively on his first year in Florence.

He enjoyed it so much that he has decided to remain at the club for the foreseeable future.

De Gea has signed a new contract with Fiorentina that will keep him at the Italian club until the summer of 2028.

A statement from Fiorentina read: “ACF Fiorentina is pleased to announce that David de Gea’s contract has been extended to June 30, 2028. The Spanish goalkeeper joined the club last summer, having previously played for Atletico Madrid and Manchester United. In his first season he made 42 appearances and kept 11 clean sheets.”

Fiorentina now have the Europa Conference League qualifiers to look forward to.

It would be nice to see De Gea win something before he leaves Italy. Perhaps he can take inspiration from Scott McTominay.

Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford react to De Gea announcement

De Gea was tagged in a post from Fiorentina’s Instagram account once it was announced that he was staying at the club.

It wasn’t long before comments from De Gea’s former United teammates flooded in.

Bruno Fernandes replied with “Number 1” accompanied with a love heart emoji.

United loanee Marcus Rashford also reacted to the post with a love heart emoji.

Meanwhile, Nemanja Matic, Joel Pereira and Odion Ighalo showed their support for De Gea following his latest announcement.
