"Liverpool Are Also Attentive" - Romano Claims Reds May Join Chelsea In Race For Player Who Could Cost As Much As Wirtz

Liverpool are eyeing a move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that both the Reds and Chelsea have made enquiries for the 22-year-old recently:

“I told you that the Ekitike deal, this week, there will be no big changes from what I’m hearing, so for Ekitike, from next week, we will understand more, but Chelsea remain informed on the situation, also Liverpool.”

“Liverpool are also attentive to the situation of Hugo Ekitike so these two clubs have already made some contacts to be informed on the situation.”

Ekitike could cost nearly as much as Wirtz

Frankfurt have slapped a €100m (£84m) price tag on the forward, which is only slightly less than the offer the Merseyside club have tabled for Florian Wirtz.

It is believed that the club’s second official bid is worth €120m (£101m) up front plus another €10m (£8.4m) in add-ons.

Whether Ekitike is worth his current valuation, it is up for debate. The Frenchman may have scored 25 goals this season but it has been his breakthrough year at the top level. It would be a big risk if the Reds paid that much for him.

Are Liverpool looking at other forwards?

Paris Saint-Germain forward Goncalo Ramos has emerged as an unlikely alternative. It is thought that the Portuguese international could be available for around €65m (£55m).

He has had a strong second half to the season, having previously missed the best part of three months with an ankle injury, but his overall record since moving to PSG from Benfica in 2023 is pretty average.

Ramos has scored 1 goal in every 2.5 games for the Champions League finalists. It would be an improvement on Darwin Nunez (1 in 3.5) but it is not the level you would expect from an elite goalscorer.
