Manchester United and Manchester City will be able to sign players when the summer transfer window opens for business within the next 24 hours.
Both teams have already started making moves in the market after disappointing 2024/2025 seasons - in different ways. United suffered their worst season in 51 years while Pep Guardiola's men conceded their Premier League title and ended trophy-less.
Ruben Amorim has already been backed by United, with Matheus Cunha set to arrive from Wolves. A new centre-forward is expected to follow, although they have missed out on Chelsea-bound Liam Delap.
As for City, Rayan Cherki is one player strongly linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium. Tijjani Reijnders, Morgan Gibbs-White and Rayan Ait-Nouri are all also said to be on City's radar.
Supporters won't have to wait long for new signings to be officially unveiled - as new rules this summer mean the window opens earlier than usual. The Manchester Evening News explains all below;
When does the transfer window open and close?
This summer, the transfer window will open on Sunday, June 1 and close on Tuesday, June 10 at 7pm in the United Kingdom. It will then reopen on Monday, June 16 and run until Monday, September 1 at 7pm - earlier than the usual 11pm end.
Why does it close early only then to reopen again?
The reason for the change is down to this summer's Club World Cup. FIFA approved a proposal at the end of 2024 to give the participating teams an additional window to sign players for the tournament.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has switched to Real Madrid from Liverpool for £10million - despite his contract at Anfield expiring in June. The Spanish giants have paid a fee to bring the right-back in for the tournament.
The six-day closure (between June 10 and June 16) comes owing to the wording in the Premier League rulebook. Page 267 of their 2024/2025 handbook states that the summer transfer window has to open "at midnight on the date 12 weeks prior to the date on which it is to conclude."
