Nottingham Forest wait on transfer dominoes as Man City make £55m move

Nottingham Forest have two reasons to watch carefully as Manchester City look like closing in on a big money deal for AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders.

Man City are reportedly holding further talks about a £55 million move for the 26-year-old Netherlands international, who has been a regular in Milan for the last two years since joining from AZ Alkmaar. The Daily Mail claims that Pep Guardiola is also keen on Lyon midfielder Rayan Cherki, who has a price tag of about £80m.

For Forest, that kind of £85m outlay on midfield is likely to end speculation that Man City could try to lure Morgan Gibbs-White from the City Ground as Guardiola tries to find a replacement for Kevin de Bruyne.

But it could mean that the door is opening for James McAtee, who is apparently high on Forest's shopping list going into this summer transfer window. The Mail, however, claims that they will face competition from Milan, who will be looking to fill the boots of Reijnders.

Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig are also said to be keen on McAtee, the 22-year-old who made 27 appearances for Man City in the season just finished. He has previously spent time on loan at Sheffield United both in the Championship and Premier League. West Ham and Everton have also been linked with interest.

Forest have been linked with McAtee over the last year but Forest have no desire to let Gibbs-White leave.

Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo said about transfer speculation: "Regarding Morgan, I see him happy and I see him working hard.

“Morgan is one of the players that because we know each other so well and for so long, we don’t have to speak. But I see him well. Just leave Morgan to do his job and enjoy his football. When he does it, it is amazing.”
