Parker Says He'd "Be Astounded" If Chelsea Sign £50M United Winger Who Will Expect To "Start Every Single Game" - Exclusive

Former Chelsea and Manchester United defender Paul Parker has questioned whether Alejandro Garnacho would be a good fit for the Blues.

The Argentinian international is expected to leave the Red Devils this summer, with Stamford Bridge among his potential destinations. Speaking exclusively to Chelsea News (courtesy of Betano), Parker said Garnacho is not the sort of player who would accept being rotated by head coach Enzo Maresca:

“I’d be astounded if Chelsea sign him. It doesn’t make any sense, in my opinion, with the wide players they’ve got already.”

“Do Chelsea, given the size of their squad and what they’ve got, do they need someone like Garnacho there who will be expecting to start every single game? Do they need that?”

“You know, we all want to play football, but when you walk into a situation, you have to be fully aware of what the club’s about, and then you have to accept, I don’t think he’d [accept] that.”

Garnacho was livid after being benched for the Europa League final

Speaking after being selected as a substitute for the 1-0 defeat to Tottenham last week, Garnacho openly questioned the decision that was made by his manager Ruben Amorim:

“Up until the final, I played every round helping the team, and today I play 20 minutes, I don’t know. The final will influence [my decision], but the whole season, the situation of the club. I’m going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens afterwards.”

Amorim has subsequently told Garnacho that he is free to leave Old Trafford, with his asking price reportedly set at around €60m (£50m).

Chelsea are in the market for a left winger

With Jadon Sancho’s permanent move to London expected to be cancelled and Mykhailo Mudryk still suspended, Maresca does lack options on the left flank.

Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens, Real Madrid’s Rodrygo and Brighton’s Joao Pedro have been tipped as potential alternatives but, out of the four, Garnacho would probably be the cheapest to buy. Of course, that doesn’t mean he would be the best solution but his availability for £50m does make him an attractive target.
