West Ham completed one of their most miserable seasons in recent history despite entering the campaign with high expectations.
The Hammers finished ninth in the Premier League a year ago, but aimed to make another step up as they replaced David Moyes with Julen Lopetegui.
West Ham then spent heavily in the hope that they could reach Europe, but they found themselves in a relegation battle before finishing 14th.
Graham Potter replaced Lopetegui midway through the season, but West Ham crashed out of every cup and failed to come remotely close to European qualification.

Robbie Savage slams West Ham’s dismal season
Former Premier League star Robbie Savage has now slammed their showing in this campaign, and claimed that the club has wasted a season for their fans.

Writing in the print edition of The Daily Mirror (31 May, page 59), Savage assessed every team’s campaign, handing West Ham a 4/10 rating, having initially predicted them to finish in seventh.

“A wasted season. They were never in danger of going down – but never in danger of winning a cup or getting into Europe,” Savage wrote.
“Spent big after appointing Julen Lopetegui last summer and had nothing to show for it. Must do better.”

Potter under pressure at West Ham
Despite inheriting a mess from Lopetegui, Potter is already under pressure to turn West Ham’s fortunes around quickly.
A productive summer transfer window is needed to fix the poor recruitment of last year, and Potter is also keen on reducing the average age of the squad.
However, no matter how the recruitment goes, Potter will need to start next season quickly.
West Ham avoided a relegation battle by virtue of the bottom three being a level below the rest all season, but they may not have the same luck if they continue to underwhelm at the start of the new campaign.
The Hammers have already sealed one signing in young striker Daniel Cummings, and will aim to bolster their attacking firepower further after their centre-forward roster disappointed as a collective.
Big changes are coming at the London Stadium, and serious thinking is needed from those in charge.
