GdS: Milan warned as Premier League temptation remains for Maignan – Tare’s plan

Mike Maignan’s contract will expire next summer and AC Milan are about to re-ignite renewal negotiations. However, as warned by a report, the Premier League temptation remains.

It’s been a season of ups and downs for the goalkeeper, who made some pretty shocking mistakes at the start of the second half. However, he certainly picked himself back up and had some very strong performances to end the season, including against Genoa away.

As a result of the uncertainty, Milan also put the renewal talks on hold but according to Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, Max Allegri has made it clear that he wants to keep the Frenchman. Sporting director Igli Tare is on the same wavelength and they will both meet the player soon.

Given that the Rossoneri missed out on European competitions, the previously agreed €5m salary (per season) might no longer be feasible. As such, Tare intends to start the renewal talks from scratch and find a good solution for all parties, while giving Maignan an important role.

Having said all of this, as the newspaper concludes, the Premier League hypothesis remains and it’s something Milan must be wary of. Manchester United could part ways with Andre Onana and at that point, they could make an attempt for Maignan, who might be tempted by a much higher salary.

Chelsea are also keeping tabs on the situation, per Calciomercato.com, so the key for Milan will be to understand Maignan’s intentions quickly. Then, it will be a matter of finding the best solution for all parties involved.
