Manchester United are hoping to strengthen a number of positions in the transfer market - depending on their financial situation
Manchester United could look to make a move for a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window after Andre Onana came under-fire at various points throughout the campaign.
The 29-year-old arrived at Old Trafford from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023 for £47.2m but his career at United has been littered with some headline errors along with some top performances.
He said: "It’s been a difficult year, it’s been a difficult year for everyone, so singling out anyone, I think that would be very, very wrong. Just look where Manchester United are in the Premier League. The players are not having the greatest time.”
He added: "For instance, as a goalkeeper, if you make a mistake, everybody in the world will be talking about that mistake. If you make a mistake for so many other clubs in the Premier League, they might just be in the newspaper the next day.”
Man Utd eye late hijack for Joan Garcia
According to Caught Offside, United are keen to make a change between the posts this summer and Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia has been named as as “serious option”. The 24-year-old has a release clause of around £21m in his contract but the report claims that Barcelona are the favourites to sign him.
He has also been named as a target for Arsenal, Manchester City and Newcastle United.
It is claimed that United are looking at making a late hijack of Barca’s move as they sense the chance to swoop. United are planning to hold talks with Garcia but whether they are able to successfully disrupt Barca’s move remains to be seen. Garcia made his professional debut with Espanyol in 2021 and at the age of 24 has plenty of years ahead of him.
What Ruben Amorim has said on Andre Onana
Amid criticism of Onana this season, Amorim said mistakes were natural for every player and also claimed he’d made more mistakes as manager. He said: "If you look at the season I've made more mistakes than them during these last games and during these last months.
"There's nothing I can say to Andre in this moment that will help him, so the most important thing is to be natural and then when the time comes I will choose the best XI to play. But I'm really confident in Andre."
He added: "We continue to do the same thing. Training, seeing the games, trying to choose the best eleven to win every match."
Onana was dropped from the starting XI for three of the last four Premier League games of the campaign but he did play the full 90 minutes in the Europa League final.
